Job Summary
About the Role
šIn this role, you will be directly managing ICs responsible for building the infrastructure and compute platform that all of the researchers at OpenAI use for their work. Our team builds the world's largest modern, cloud-based supercomputing systems. šYou do not need to be an ML/DL expert to deliver world-class infrastructure, but you do need to be able to quickly obtain a deep technical understanding of new domains. You should enjoy being self-directed and identifying the most important problems to solve as the team matures with standardized tools and processes around stability, observability, and scaling. šThis will be based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.
You might thrive in this role if you:
šAre a technical leader, excited to do hand-on technical work but equally excited to lead technical teams to peak performance. šHave a track record of accelerating engineering reliability by empowering your fellow engineers with excellent tooling and systems. šHelp create a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture that makes all feel welcome while enabling radical candor and the challenging of group think. šHave a humble attitude, an eagerness to help your colleagues, and a desire to do whatever it takes to make the team succeed. šAre experienced in collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure that reliability and scalability are considered in the design and development of new features and services. šOwn problems end-to-end, and are willing to pick up whatever knowledge you're missing to get the job done. šHave excellent communication skills. Expressing ideas clearly and listening carefully are among the most important requirements for success in this role. šAny experience with high-performance computing or open-source contributions is a bonus.
